I am Emory Kaplan, a freshman at the University of Michigan from Millburn, NJ, with a love for writing, sports, and technology.

Five years ago, when I was 12, I made a deal with my father to go to Citi Field for game 3 of the 2015 World Series without tickets, but with the hope of buying something affordable at the last minute.

We failed.

But, as we were walking to the train station listening to Billy Joel sing the national anthem in the distance, a complete stranger approached and handed us two completely free tickets to see our favorite team win an incredible home game.

It sparked my journey of placing myself into the path of opportunity.

I have always tried to combine my passion for sports by writing about it and covering events for my school’s Studio 462. I also had the extraordinary chance to cover the 2020 Men’s Basketball Big East Tournament as a credentialed member of the media.

Gift Givrr is an effort to combine my passion for sports with an interest in supporting my community and using technology.
